The James Anderson International Smallbore Open Championship 2009

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Tensions were running high for the first ever James Anderson International Smallbore Open Championship. No one quite knew what to expect, but needless to say, the atmosphere was electric. The rules were announced by the host and were as follows:

“The first shoot is to be a standard 10-ball shoot, the only restriction being a 10 minute maximum time frame, including sighters.

The second shoot is to be a competition of speed. 10 rounds are to be fired at 2 targets, hence grouping being of the essence. The time limit for this is to be 90 seconds.”

Participants were starting their pre-shooting rituals and finally everyone eventually shot.

Independant adjudicators marked the cards and the final results were displayed as followed

Easter Bisley

Monday, February 9th, 2009
March 28, 2009toApril 3, 2009

It is the time of year once again to head down to Bisley (Woking) to spend 6 days shooting outdoors with the big guns! It is one of the best shooting events that ULRC run. Shootiung will occur every day, save Monday, in a morning, afternoon and evening session. The first two are shooting and the 3rd is generally eating, drinking and being merry.
Shooting shant be the only event over the week. Other non-shooting events are yet to be scheduled.

Message from the outgoing Captain

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

The academic year of 07/08 has not been an easy one for ULRC - starting out the year without a small-bore rifle range was not an ideal way to start the year, but the complications and difficulties presented were faced by the committee with irrepressible enthusiasm. The late start to the year posed difficulties that were met and solved with determination as the year went on.

As the outgoing full-bore captain, I would like to thank the committee for their continued efforts throughout the year, without which the club would have been entering this year in a far weaker position. I would also like to thank the ULRC alumni who have given unfaltering support to the club and have been there whenever they were needed.

A very large thank you must be given to Mr John Boshier who has opened up the facilities at Blackfriars for our use without question and has worked hard to see that our not unsubstantial needs were met. We owe John huge amounts, as without him, the club would be facing a very bleak future.

And finally, I would like to wish next year’s committee luck, and hope they have fun!

Freya

Easter Camp ‘08

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

As the sun ticked past noon on a blustery day in March, a small band of intrepid adventurers descended upon the small camp of Bisley in leafy Surrey…

Due to a slight organisational hiccup, we can’t quite remember which of those intrepid adventurers actually arrived on the Friday, but suffice it to say it was the hardened, or rather, naïve few. We set up base camp in the Inns of Court clubhouse, with the satellite base in the adopted home of London University “Casa del Dash – The Finest Caravan money didn’t buy”. (more…)

Imperial Meeting 2007

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

A message from the outgoing Full-bore Captain.

I just want to congratulate everyone on what I think has been a pretty successful meeting for the club. We won the inter-universities short range (the Musketeers) by a whole 2 v-bulls in what was a ridiculously close match (the top three teams were level on points). We didn’t retain the long range but came a very close second (and higher on v-bulls!). I’m told that most of the Cambridge lot who beat us were doing the match rifle meeting beforehand, so considering the practice they had, I reckon we gave them a pretty good run for their money!

With no less than 11 members shooting either the whole or part of the meeting (and Jess and Laura shooting their first full meeting), there are a number of individual highlights to mention: (more…)
